TEDx program has started in 2009. Three years later more than 600 organizers came from all over the world to meet in Doha/Qatar for the first time – and set new standards. Which one, TEDxBerlin host Stephan Balzer talks about in an interview:

Stephan Balzer (l.) on stage at TEDxSummit in Doha/Qatar

Stephan, you just came back from the TEDxSummit in Doha/Qatar – what did you bring back home with you?

It was a very impressive week. I have never before seen so many people from so many different countries united by one spirit and by one shared worldview. When I went on stage to give a talk I said: „These are the United Nations. The real United Nations.“

What is the background of TEDxSummit?

TEDx program has started in 2009. Since then, TEDx has grown enormously and now there are almost 1000 TEDx organizers all over the world. So it was time for a meeting, to bring them all together. One goal of the TEDxSummit was to get to know each other. The second goal was to discuss the projects that take place in all these countries every day and to learn from each other.

How and by whom was the meeting of more than 600 TEDx organizers in Doha brought about?

H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad was our host in Doha. TEDx organizers from the Netherlands, the US and Tunisia worked on the logistics for this event for many week, hand in hand with the Doha Film Institute (DFI).

After one week in the Qatar desert – how has the relationship between the TEDx organizers changed?

First of all people who only had e-mail contact before met each other personally. The real new wealth of experience we got was by listening to all these impressive TEDx stories and by establishing new friendships. Furthermore, we developed some fresh projects in some of the workshops, which have to be converted into reality, now.

Definately the most beautiful and most powerful x ever seen! Enjoy:
